Meeting on disaster preparedness held
YINGKIONG, May 07: A meeting on Disaster preparedness, coordination and review of DDMP was held at the DC’s Conference Hall here today. The main objectives of the meeting was to discuss about necessary measures during the time of any disaster like earthquake, landslide, floods, fire accident etc. and to ensure that proper stocking, placement and management of foodgrains, medicines, drinking water essential commodities, power supply, communication, man and materials are made so that any emergency situation can be tackled in a better, efficient and effective manner.

APO visits blocks to ensure proper implementation SBM
ITANAGAR, May 07: To gather first hand information regarding implementation of Saakshar Bharat Mission (SBM) in Upper Siang district, APO (Adult Education) of Upper Siang district D. Tekseng recently toured various SBM centers under Geku and Mariyang block.
During his tour, the APO interacted with the adult learners and expressed his pleasure to see that many of the adult learners were able to sign their name.
He asked the “Preraks” of the district to be sincere and punctual while discharging their duty to make the mission a success. He cautioned that there will be no honorarium for any Prerak against defunct centre.

YUPIA, May 07: After stringent action taken jointly by Papum Pare District Administration and Police against the ILP offenders, the train passengers coming from Assam side have been decreased to approximately 250 whereas during last week the figure was approximately 2000.

Enact Forest Act at the earliest
In a new development which will usher ray of hope, Arunachal Pradesh is going to enact its own Forest Act to protect its forests besides various flora and fauna. A draft formulated by the committee constituted in this regard by department of Environment and Forests was yesterday submitted to PCCF cum Principal Secretary (E&F) AK Wahal. The committee comprised of Additional PCCF’s Dr. Rabindra Kumar and Dr. R Kemp, CCF RK Singh, RSC Jayaraj and DCF S. Manyu after thorough deliberation and repeated meeting, finalized the draft Arunachal Pradesh Forest Act. The draft will now be placed in the website of the department (arunachalforests.gov.in) inviting views and suggestions of the public and other stakeholders.
The workshop involving experts from all over the country will also be organized for fine tuning of the draft Act, before its formal submission to the Government. It is to be noted that Arunachal Pradesh does not have its own Forest Act and is still following the Assam Forest Regulation, 1891 for administration of its forests. Many experts believe that taking advantage of weak law; citizens of state are indulging in rampant encroachment of forest land. Reserve forests and wild life sanctuaries are vanishing thick and fast due to massive destruction caused by human encroachment. The decision of Environment and Forests department to formulate its own Forest Act should be supported by everyone. Now it is the duty of department to ensure that Arunachal Forest Act is enacted soon and it does not remain as publicity stunt.

DGP takes note of suggestions of this daily

Referring to the 5th May editorial of this daily (Arunachal police need to act swiftly), DGP S Nithianandam(IPS) in a press release said that the editorial of this daily has touched upon a serious issue with positive approach and tried to reflect people’s sentiments.
“On my part, I have reflected your concern about the issue in a letter to my police officers and the ways and means to stop such activities in our area. Hope, I will get your support to maintain law and order and prevention of crime in future,” the DGP said to the Editor of this daily.
While appreciating Arunachal Pradesh police for rescuing a businessman after a fierce encounter with the rebel outfit near Bora Jaldobi village in Assam's Dhemaji district recently, the editorial of this daily said that Arunachal Pradesh police need to take this incident as wakeup call and take some important steps so that such incident is not repeated. The reported abduction of businessman by NDFB (S) militants from his farmhouse inside Daying Ering Wildlife sanctuary is a matter of concern for whole of Arunachal.
“Police should make their presence felt in boundary areas. They should improve human intelligence and get hard on the underground outfits. If timely action is not taken, they may spread their area of influence in whole of the Arunachal,” this daily had said in its editorial.
Official team inspects NFSM project implementation in East Siang

The department allotted 12 such ring wells under the scheme in five agricultural
blocks on priority basis. Pasighat has been allocated 7 ring wells while two has
been allocated for Mebo block. One Ring Well each has been allocated to Bilat, Ruksin
and Sille-
Each of the ring wells will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 80, 000.
As per guideline, the dug ring wells should be installed in wet rice crop (WRC) fields where there is no irrigation facility. The project sites should cover around 100 hectares of croplands in a cluster approach.
Informing the insufficiency of fund under the scheme, ADO Perme informed that the department has plan to place proposal for additional fund for construction of plate around the ring wells with installation of water pumps under Chief Minister’s Farm Mechanization scheme.

Mahila Congress resolves to seek one more RS seat in state
ITANAGAR, May 07: Arunachal Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (APMCC) has resolved to seek one more Rajya Sabha seat in Arunachal Pradesh. On asked to narrate some memorable incidences or surgeries at her work place, she said: ‘During these past 26 years, I have seen so many reputed surgeons who played magic with knives and scissors and gave life or brought smiles on the faces of so many people that it has become difficult to remember any particular or memorable surgery at the OT’.
On insistence, she agreed to narrate three significant events that have left a deep imprint in her memories till today. “The first instance is when my late father, who had come for medical treatment at General Hospital, Naharlagun from village died at the hospital premises while I was on duty. That day, Dr. T. Basar (Senior) and I were performing an important surgery. In the meantime, I got the message that my late father was in a critical condition and wanted to see me. I was not in a position to leave the assignment which also involved another human life and requested some of my colleagues to attend on my behalf. However, by the time my assignment got over and I came out of OT, he was no more”.
“The second memorable event which I remember was a surgery performed on a Nyishi patient who had come with multiple ‘dao cut injuries’. The cuts were so deep and major that even there was perforation of the lungs. The surgery lasted seven hours from late evening to dawn and it was a success”. “The third memorable surgery was the one performed by Dr. M. Jini in 1997 on an Apatani female patient whom the doctors at R.K Mission Hospital, Itanagar had refused to operate citing multiple organ failures. Braving all odds, Dr. Jini infused life into that almost dead girl. Now the same lady is living an active physical life and attending the routine chores at her native village. Tears continue to flow down the eyes of the lady and her relatives when they recollect the marathon surgeries spreading more than three times”.
“I have worked with so many reputed surgeons but I would like to specifically take the names of some senior doctors with whom I shared some very memorable work experiences. They are Drs. K. Nishing, K.K Dey, M Jini and M. Basar (Surgical Specialists), Drs. T. Basar, B. Mala and L. Wangchuk (Gynaecologists), Dr. R. Doye (Eye Specialist), Drs. Install proper drainage system at Gandhi Market: GMWA
ITANAGAR, May 07: Mass social service to clear blocked drains and repair road went in vain as rain waters again flooded roads and colonies at Gandhi Market areas of Daporijo causing great inconvenience not only to the pedestrians but also motorists.
Few days ago, the Gandhi Market Welfare Association (GMWA) had organized a mass social service to clear the blocked drains but the situation has not improved.
There are three important educational institutions, namely the Govt. Degree College, Govt. Hr. Sec. School and Govt. Town Middle School in the locality. But the authority is always turning a blind eye to this chronic problem, lamented GMWA vice president Adap Maling.
The market association appealed to the department concerned to install proper drainage system and also repair the road immediately.
VKV conducts training for preprimary school teacher
ITANAGAR, May 07: Vivekananda Kendra Arunachal unit recently organized camps for Bal Sevikas (Teacher of Preprimary School) at VKV, Kharsang.
Experienced teachers shared their valuable knowledge with the participants. Activities were conducted with locally available materials like dry leaves, flowers etc.
It is worth mentioning here that Vivekananda Kendra is running 115 Balwadis in Arunachal Pradesh including the remote circles like Lazu, Wakka, Khimiyong etc. The Balwadis are not regular formal schools, but to prepare the tiny tots through games, Stories and songs for formal schooling. It is a system to teach through play way method.
Attending the closing ceremony yesterday, N Ngemu, the Vibhag Pramukh of Vivekananda Kendra, Tirap Vibhag encouraged the participants to work with a service like attitude to uplift the society and play their respective role effectively.
